Discipleship programs are leaving an impact on young believers | Malaysia (slegs in Engels)

In recent years, local partners have been active in working with the youth on the eastern side of Malaysia. Young people are often the targets of forced conversion and sometimes even tricked into converting to the country’s dominant religion. In recognising this situation, local partners have initiated a few discipleship programmes for the youth in East Malaysia so they may stand strong in the face of pressure and adversity. They have found that the youth are hungry for God’s word and eager to strengthen their faith in Christ.

One of the programmes is “Standing Strong Through the Storm” (SSTS), which teaches young people to further understand the risks and challenges they may face because of their faith and how to stand firm in their beliefs. Another is “The Practical Ministry Module” (PMM), which teaches young people to be set apart and live confidently as Christians in an ever-changing society.

Local partners also implemented a music programme for the younger students, bringing fun and new skills into discipleship. Around three or more programmes on average are conducted each month, with more than 10 participants attending every month.

They travel countless hours through rough terrains and bumpy boat rides to reach these young people in the rural areas of Malaysia. Their faith in Jesus and determination to see the next generation thrive are always inspiring! “It was a challenge but at the same time, it teaches us to step up and learn to depend on God,” said Sandy*, one of the local partners, when she was on her way to the youth training.

The youths are so grateful for the effort put into each training and programme. “It has been a while since a camp like this was organised. I really missed it. I get to learn new things and meet new friends”, said one of the children from the music programme.

Overall, there has been an overwhelming response from the partners and the youth. Open Doors local partners are eager and encouraged to bring more programmes to the community to help young people and children with their walk with God.

Please pray for youth initiatives in Malaysia:

  1. Pray for the youth of East Malaysia to be the light and the salt for the future generation of leaders.
  2. Pray for our partners; may they always be covered and have a safe journey travelling to these rural places.
  3. Pray for our local partners as they are seeking more volunteers to help with the programmes.
  4. The Locals have also asked us to pray that the government will provide more stable electricity in the area.

You can be a part of this great initiative and make a difference in the lives of young believers in countries like Malaysia by being a bearer of hope to the next generation.
