Last week, on the evening of 17 March 2022, Pastor Yalam Shankar from Anganpalli, District Bijapur Chhattisgarh in India, was found murdered next to his house. In recent months, he had received constant written threats.
In January 2022, Pastor Yalam found some pieces of papers scattered inside his house and on the doors of his house. His name was written on the paper with 27 other pastors and believers in his area. It also included a threat that they would be killed if they converted anyone to Christianity in the area. The pamphlet was signed by the Naxalites (Maoist rebel groups supportive of political sentiment and ideology).
Despite the threats, Pastor Yalam continued to serve the Lord until he was murdered. He used to say that “even if I lose my life, I will not stop serving the Lord.”
Two days ago, on 23 March, another one of the pastors, whose name was on the list was attacked.
Our partners in India have asked for global intercession for these partners. Please join us for a special 24-hour time of prayer from today at 15:00 to tomorrow at 15:00 for these 27 pastors to ask the Lord to protect them.
- Pray for the bereaved family of Pastor Yalam.
- Pray for all Christians who are traumatised by his murder.
- Pray for protection for all whose names were in the letter and for Christians living in fear after what happened.
Thank you for praying!
