Dear partner and friend

We’ve just done our annual planning for 2026, and it’s always a time of reflection on not only how but also why this is a worthwhile cause to be involved in. Our work as Open Doors in countries with freedom and faith is critical: reporting on what is happening with His Church in dangerous places and inviting His people in these “freer” countries to pray and support the local Church in these difficult settings, so that the Kingdom of God can spread.

Through global research, we know that Africa, particularly the Sahel region, is a region of deadly violence against the Church. Being on the same continent as these brothers and sisters in Christ, and the only Open Doors in Africa, we are seeking support to speak out for them through the Arise Africa campaign.

In light of the scale of suffering experienced by our family of faith on the continent, it feels like our contributions are like sticking band-aids on a gaping wound. But we do well to remember that the Sovereign Lord fulfils His plans and will through His people’s prayers.

He is the same Lord who either brings leaders into power or changes them (Daniel 2:21). He comforts the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds. He hears the cries of His people (Psalm 34:17-18). And no matter how thick the darkness, it cannot keep the light from breaking through.

So, as the Body of Christ in Africa, let’s cry out for His plans and will to be done on this continent that we call home. While never forgetting that heaven is our ultimate and eternal home.
