You helped Kirti in her darkest hour

Like so many Christians from a Hindu background, Kirti came to faith after God healed her from a disease that plagued her for many years.

Soon after she became a Christian, her food was stolen and eaten by the village as punishment for becoming a Christian. She was also beaten, injuring her spine. The biggest blow came when one night, a group of men barged into her house and took her husband. The next time she saw him was also the last as they gruesomely killed him.

No one was ever arrested for her husband’s murder, and she received no sympathy from the non-Christians in her village. Afterwards, Kirti left the village with her children for a safe house.

At the safe house, Open Doors partners helped Kirti and her children with food, clothing, blankets, financial support and spiritual care. We still do as her injuries prevent her from working.

“Thanks to your care and love, I’m still alive and a follower of Jesus today,” she says.

Remarkably, she chose to return to her village. All so that she can be a light for Christ to them.

“My village people want to chase me out. The people often threaten to kill me. [But] I pray for the salvation of my village, and I believe that my village will receive that salvation.”

Kirti’s testimony is an example of how when we, as the Body of Christ, come alongside our persecuted brothers and sisters when tragedy strikes, they are strengthened so that they can continue to be Christ’s witnesses.

Thank you for strengthening widows like Kirti. If you would like to support Christians like her, please prayerfully consider how you can bless them through any gift you are able to give today, so they can continue to shine the light of Christ in the darkness.

Jesus said, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? … No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” (Romans 8:35, 37)
