World Watch List Campaign

In the most dangerous places to be a Christian, faith shouldn’t be possible…

In these places, following Jesus comes with a heavy price: loss of family, loss of community, loss of security and even loss of life.

Yet, in these places, faith isn’t just surviving but thriving. Not because Christians here are extraordinary, but because they serve an extraordinary God.

On their own and by human standards, it should be impossible for faith to exist here. Yet with God, people are giving their lives to Christ and bearing His cross every day.

Daily these believers have a choice: choose fear or choose faith. And every day they choose faith in Jesus, despite knowing the price they will pay for it.

You can equip and strengthen believers, who in the face of fear, live boldly for Jesus in some of the most dangerous places to be a Christian.

Help believers so they can continue to live for Jesus like these believers…

Every R600

could contribute to Biblical training for a believer who fled their country to be raised and go back as a small group church leader

Every R1 500

could contribute to a persecuted Christian receiving hope and healing through trauma care.

What is the World Watch List?

The Open Doors World Watch List is an annual report that ranks the countries where Christians face the most persecution and discrimination. For the sixth year in a row, Christians are now facing very high or extreme levels of persecution in all 50 countries on the list. Outside the top 50, a further 5 countries are facing very high levels of persecution, with another 21 countries recording high levels of persecution.

  • The WWL is a global research tool, in its 33rd year. It was conceived as a tool to guide our field work, currently in around 70 countries.
  • Research methodology is consistent for all countries scoring 41+ points, including the audit.
  • The number of persecuted Christians per country does not include every Christian living in each country. For example we do not include states that would score below 41 points.

NB: For some years, we have presented the World Watch List map of the top 50 countries with three levels of severity of persecution and discrimination: high, very high and extreme, represented by colour: yellow, orange and red. But in recent years, there have been no countries in the top 50 with fewer than 60 points, so there will be no yellow.
