Imagine that you’re not free to attend a church or youth meeting or allowed to have a children’s book or Bible.
Imagine that your parents and family are secret house church leaders and one day suddenly during the house church meeting 10 policemen raid your house.
Imagine that you want to go to a Christian youth club, but the government forbids young people under 18 years old from attending such meetings.
Imagine that you’re the only Christian in your school and so during the break other children don’t play with you and sometimes you come home with your clothes torn.
In countries in Central Asia this is a reality facing Christians and their children. In all Central Asian countries special permission is needed to work with children, to teach them about Christ. If you don’t have that specified in the statutes and permission from the Committee for Religious Affairs, you’re working illegally. Most of the Central Asian countries have statements in their laws on religion about the prohibition of teaching religion to children.
Every day Christian mothers and fathers are forced to choose between staying faithful to Jesus or protecting their children, between raising their children as Christians or keeping them physically safe.
Many children are growing up knowing that they’re in grave danger because of their parents’ determination to follow Christ.
The courage and conviction of many parents in the persecuted Church is both inspiring and humbling, but often comes at a great cost – and the price is paid by both the parents and their children.
Today, you can be a source of encouragement to these children.
Draw your most beautiful drawing for children in Central Asia and we will send it to them.
As you draw a picture for these children, use these prayer points to pray for children in Central Asia:
- Pray for the children and teenagers who will receive a drawing or card. Pray that these drawings/ cards they will continue to remind them that they are part of a global Church family and that they are loved by God.
- Pray for Christian children in Central Asia, for protection from bullying at school and fear at home. Pray that they will shine as a light in their schools and communities.
- Pray that God will continue to work through Open Doors partners to bring Christian children in the region encouragement and support.
- Pray that the children’s Bibles, summer camps and discipleship groups will help these children to grow in their faith.
How you can encourage them
- We invite children of all ages to draw an image for children in Central Asia, which will be giving to them during certain occasions.
- Use an A4 page and use paint, crayons, pencils, etc. to create a drawing.
For security
- Do not mention Open Doors in the drawing for the safety of the children.
- You may provide your name, but do not provide your full address.
- Do not send money or make proposals to help.
- Do not mention Bible verses.
