Kuwait is a tiny nation that has a strong economy based on oil. It is one of the richest countries in the Arab world. Kuwaiti society is conservative. Islam prescribes a wide range of rules for personal, family and community life. The government has been using the traditional conservative tribal society of the country to eliminate the liberal and leftist groups and has so far been very successful. In the process, other religious minorities were also seriously affected. In Kuwait, Christians face the strongest persecution in the private sphere of life followed by the community sphere. Converts face the severest form of persecution orchestrated mainly by family, community leaders, religious leaders and government officials.
