Youth meetings can be defined as group meetings, CSA meetings, meetings at schools, mission weeks, etc. The purpose of these meetings is to inform the youth of the persecuted Church and the work of Open Doors.

Underground Camps

Underground camps are usually held from Friday afternoons to Sunday mornings. A camp deposit of R500 is required to cover the material we give the youth during the camp. The leaders of the church or school are responsible for discipline on the camp. The purpose of Underground Camps is to teach the youth responsibility towards the persecuted Church. During the weekend they will be given information about the persecuted Church, experience something of what our brothers and sisters experience daily and be challenged with regards to their relationship with God and their responsibility towards others. Bible studies are based on Biblical principles we learn from the persecuted Church.

The Church or group requesting the camp is responsible for the following arrangements:

  • Campsite
  • Food
  • Travel Arrangements
  • Marketing and Entries
  • Band/Music for Praise & Worship

Lock-up (Suggested for High School and Youth)

The purpose of this activity is to expose the youth to the reality of persecution.

Before the Lock-up starts a briefing is held to explain how the simulation works and after the event there is a de-briefing and the young people can share their feelings and experiences.

Follow-up Camp

We recently also had our first follow-up camp that focused on what we believe and what Islam is all about? Previous experiences taught us that the young people know very little of Islam and at Underground we feel that this is one of the major challenges for us as believers in the future.

Shockwave

Shockwave is our global prayer event for the youth and annually takes place during the first weekend of March. Young people across the world stand united to pray for persecuted believers. In 2006, 30 countries participated in Shockwave. We motivate Youth groups and schools to participate in this global prayer event.

We offer a Shockwave pack with prayer information, a promotional video clip, a video on the countries and proposed programs for an evening event. The only thing the youth leader needs to do is invite the youth and plan the final program.

Youth Trips to the persecuted Church
(over 18)

In 2006 we had our first Underground Youth trips to both China and Egypt. The purpose of these trips is to introduce the youth to the persecuted Church and give them the opportunity to learn more about the Church and the believers. These trips are for young people between 19 and 30 years old. Every year Underground will take young people to meet and visit our brothers and sisters.

Children’s Ministry

The "New kid on the block" for Underground is the Primary School Ministry that started in 2008. We do camps for the children that include a movie, games, information and different activities for them to do, all put together in one book. We also visit Primary Schools, Sunday Schools and Children’s groups informing them about the persecuted Church and what goes on in the world by using Power Points and showing DVD’s.
