"The first thing persecuted Christians ask me for is prayer." - Brother Andrew
Prayer transcends culture, race and gender. It is where heaven touches earth and the means by which we can have a profound effect on the lives of our persecuted Christian brothers and sisters.
Open Doors equips believers to stand with the persecuted in prayer, and takes teams around the world to encourage and pray directly with our brothers and sisters under pressure. Through these pages you will find a range of materials that will keep you informed and help you to join with us in prayer for the Persecuted Church.

The jangmadang, the traditional food market in North Korea, is becoming an increasingly important place of trade for the inhabitants. It is still one of the few channels through which people can buy and sell food and domestic products.
The market also has an important function as a meeting place for workers and employers. Because of the lack of work in the factories, people are obliged to find jobs elsewhere. This means that many go to the jangmadang in the morning to find work for the rest of the day and earn some money to make a living. At this “job market”, women seek work as private teachers, housekeepers or even as prostitutes. The men offer their services as handymen.
The jangmadang is not officially recognized by the government. They want to keep the distribution of food and work in their own hands. This is why security police regularly come along to enforce their regulations and disrupt the trade.
Prayer Points:
- Please pray for better job opportunities for the people so that they can make a living.
- Pray for a way out for women who have to sell their bodies.
- Pray for insight for the government that they will divide food and labour justly.
