Every day, our persecuted brothers and sisters face situations which make them feel hopeless. They struggle with unimaginable hardship because of their faith in Christ and often wonder if they can carry on… if anyone understands or even cares. Yet just a glimmer of hope can change everything!
When they know that there are other Christians whom they have never even met giving of themselves to meet their physical and spiritual need, it brings them hope! And it gives them the strength to carry on.
This is why we have once again put together our annual Gifts of Hope catalogue.
I hope you will take some time to review each gift carefully, and ask God how He wants you to respond.
Gift 0901 ~ Give a Bible
Give a Bible to a persecuted believer like Ablaa.
As a Muslim convert to Christianity, the one thing Ablaa desperately wanted was a Bible of her own. She hungered to learn about Jesus and what it meant to be His follower. But in a land where Bibles were scarce, she knew it would take a miracle to have her own copy of God’s Word. So you can imagine her joy when she was given a Bible by Open Doors. “God has performed a miracle in my life through the Bible that I received!” Ablaa exclaimed.
Provide training for 1 suffering Christian to learn to stand strong despite harsh persecution.
When Nirmeen turned from Islam to follow Christ, she faced harsh persecution. But through an Open Doors training seminar, she was taught how to grow in her newfound faith through the study of God’s Word and through prayer... and she learned how to rely on God in the midst of persecution. As Nirmeen says, “Regardless of what suffering I might face, I now know how to personally fellowship with God!”
Provide a set of 10 educational resources for children living in places of intense persecution.
In many places like Colombia, most children cannot afford to attend school. So the only place they can receive an education is through their church. Through Open Doors, Sunday school teachers are equipped with educational materials for children. “For 10 years, I only had a Bible and the creativity of the Holy Spirit,” says Raul, a teacher from Colombia. “Now, with this material presented by Open Doors, I have wonderful tools to teach my little ones.”
Provide emergency relief such as food and clothing for 1 family impacted by severe persecution.
After Muslim extremists attacked her village, Talatu and her children lost everything – including their beloved husband and father. In her despair, Talatu wondered how she and her traumatized family would survive. So you can imagine her joy when Open Doors supplied her with three months’ worth of food, clothing for her children and money to cover her transportation costs.
Provide Secret Believers with Bibles, Christian resources, training and when necessary, safe havens to help them remain strong and grow in their new faith.
Hannah recently left Islam to follow Christ and now lives in isolation… fearing for her life. She and millions of others just like her are “Secret Believers” who suffer silently for their faith. Open Doors must actively… but secretly… support new believers like Hannah, but we can only do so with the help of friends like you.
Strengthen 1 persecuted woman like Nadia to stand firm in her faith by providing special training and support.
When Nadia started attending Open Doors’ women’s training programme, she was a timid new believer who was afraid to share her faith in her devoutly Muslim community. Today, however, her pastor says, “You can really see Nadia’s transformation. She is very bold and confident now. Many women are attending church because of her.”
Train 1 teacher like Rahila to effectively reach the next generation of believers in Egypt.
As a believer and teacher of young children, Rahila sees the horrific toll that persecution is taking on the next generation of believers in her country. This is why she is so grateful for the specialised training she received from Open Doors, which helps her provide practical encouragement and Biblical guidance to her pupils.
“My sleepless nights over the future of our children are taken care of by Open Doors,” she said. “We are so astonished by what God is doing through this training. I can see a brighter future for Christian children and the Church.”
Help train persecuted Christians to reach Muslims with the Gospel.
One of the greatest opportunities to reach Muslims with the Gospel is through the lives of Christians who are being persecuted for their faith. But those who are persecuted often struggle to build authentic relationships with their Muslim neighbours – and win them over to Christ. That’s where Open Doors’ training seminars have had a profound impact. As one pastor recently said, “This seminar is a good tool to use, when educating the Church to reach the Muslims, whom I used to think were unreachable.”
Gift 0909 ~ Support persecuted women in Sudan with training
Help persecuted women in Sudan through a programme designed to give them skills training and much needed counselling and support.
Like many women in Sudan, Mary is the main provider for her family’s basic needs. And like most women in Sudan, she lacks the basic skills and training she needs to generate income.
But through an Open Doors training programme, Mary was given the training she needed to start a business from her home, and she was given the support and counselling she needed to stand strong amidst the persecution she faces as a believer.
Mary said, “I have discovered that I’m doing things differently after attending training with Open Doors. This is because of God’s grace.”
Gift 0910 ~ Produce a radio programme airing into the Muslim World
Fund the production of a Christian radio programme to take the Gospel to Muslims.
Hajik, a Muslim convert to Christianity, came to faith in Jesus Christ some years ago. He says that Christian radio programmes were his Bible school in the early years of his faith. “The radio was my pastor,” says Hajik today. Through your special gift, you can help Open Doors partner with a broadcasting company to produce a Christian radio programme that airs every day into the Muslim World – sharing the truth about Jesus and exposing many to the Gospel!
