BIBLEGIVERS at the Two Oceans 2011 Marathon

"God is able to use any situation and willing servant to make people aware of Him and His creation. I felt the powerful presence of the Lord during the race. I viewed the race also as a prayer walk – I was SO aware of Jesus. And seeing that the surrounding was so beautiful and it was such a lovely day, one couldn’t but be truly aware of our King." -Jacomien Beukes-

Running with Jesus

"Feet have always fascinated me. About 5 000 people took part in the fun walk at the Two Oceans Marathon and at the starting line there were feet everywhere you looked. A few of those feet walked with the aim of raising funds for Bibles, a project of Open Doors. It reminded me of the spiritual armour in Ephesians 6:15– 'Your desire to tell the good news about peace should be like shoes on your feet.' I found the walk to be exciting and I pray that every Bible that was walked for would end up in the hands of someone who will use it to spread the Gospel even further." -Naomi Thomas-

Starting Line"When God called me to run I wasn’t fit enough, didn’t have the money to get to the race & didn’t have the correct running shoes. I ended up getting shoes for free & getting there with help from my friend. Nothing was in place & all I did was put up my hand to God and say, 'Here I am.' And He did the rest.

"I had to dig deep and search for strength from God a lot during the race. The knowledge that I was running for 300 Bibles only really sunk in once I had done the race. The main thing that kept me going was Philippians 1 vs. 6. I knew that God finishes what He starts.

"I get to run for Bibles and let God use me to make an impact on the world through running. Many people run marathons, but how many run for Jesus?" -Clinton Hopkins-

"Each year I explain to my Gr.1 class that there are so many children in the world who aren’t as lucky as they are to have a Bible and to be free to tell people about Jesus, worship and sing. We pray for the Persecuted Church every day." -Elaine Visser- (Gr. 1 teacher who took part in the 5km walk with her class.)

"I was aware of the work Open Doors does through receiving their newsletters. The awareness of Christians that are being persecuted made me realise that I can make a difference through focusing on the opportunity in front of me. We can make a difference through our passion and God gave me the opportunity to do just that – by running – which is one of my passions.

God gave me incredible strength and focus during the race. He spoke to me the whole time, gave me advice and used supporters to spur me on. His Voice was filled with so much peace and wisdom en put me at ease. It was awesome to spend time with the Lord in nature on such a beautiful day." -Janine Coetsee-
